Mississauga, ON – February 23, 2015 – Candu Energy Inc., a Member of the SNC-Lavalin Group, applauds the Canadian Federal Government’s announcement to extend the life of the National Research Universal (NRU) reactor in Chalk River, Ontario, until March 31, 2018.
NRU continues to produce a large percentage of the world's medical isotopes, used in both the diagnosis and treatment of life-threatening diseases, and Canada is currently a leader in isotope production around the world. NRU is operated by Canadian Nuclear Laboratories Ltd. (CNL), a subsidiary of Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd. NRU and other CNL facilities are important to the CANDU nuclear industry for their unique abilities, including irradiation testing and experimental fuel fabrication.
